Steven Rees has been involved in farming on a grain/cotton/cattle property in northern NSW which has provided a passion to improve the agricultural workplace through automation engineering. He founded an agtech startup in the early 1990s developing unique agricultural electronic products licensing them to companies in Australia, Canada and the US. He has  subsequently managed research, development and production in the private agtech sector in Australia as well as undertaking and project managing research at the National Centre for Engineering in Agriculture at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ). The developments during this time included on-farm wireless systems, machine vision systems, GPS guidance, herbicide spraying equipment and agricultural automation products. Steven has a Masters in Engineering Practice (Electrical and Electronic) and a PhD (3D fusion for machine vision) from USQ and is currently a Robotics Engineer at John Deere for the Intelligent Solutions Group in the automation and autonomy area.
