JOHNSON Shakira

Shakira Johnson is the project coordinator for the cross-industry national plant pest surveillance initiative, iMapPESTS. Shakira facilitates cross-collaboration within the project partners and connects with industry to raise awareness on the initiative and capture feedback from potential users to help shape future directions. Shakira joined AUSVEG in July 2018 to investigate the application of a draft area freedom framework policy in relation to the Tomato Potato Psyllid. Shakira has a background in molecular plant pathology research, with a particular focus on understanding the mode of non-host resistance in the pear scab pathosystem. Her current role involves communicating and translating research outcomes to industry stakeholders for the national plant pest surveillance program, iMapPESTS. An active member of the research and extension community, she is a member of the Australasian Plant Pathology Society and currently sits on the stakeholder engagement committee of the Australasia-Pacific Extension Network.
